Attorney John J. Spillane is the second generation of his family to serve as MANSC Legislative Counsel on Beacon Hill. He was appointed by the MANSC board in February 2008 to succeed his late father, John W. Spillane, who served in that office for 25 years before his death in 2007.
Like his father, John J. Spillane has an in-depth understanding of the issues facing nonprofit schools, colleges and universities in Massachusetts. Under his direction, MANSC has been successful in representing our interests and turning back numerous troublesome bills.
He is a partner in the Worcester and Hyannis law firm of Spillane & Spillane LLP, founded in 1957 by his father.
Spillane has close personal and professional ties to nonprofit schools and colleges.
He is Chair of the Board of Trustees of Anna Maria College. He also is a member of the President’s Council of the College of the Holy Cross and has served on the President’s Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences.
In addition, Spillane has been a professional advisory member of the UMass Memorial Foundation and a member of the Governor's Seaport Advisory Council, Port Professionals.
Spillane also is active in a number of community organizations. He is a member and past president of the Worcester Economic Club and past Chair of the Board of the Research Bureau. He is also a Director of Cornerstone Bank and a former President of the Worcester Club.
Spillane received a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross in 1989 and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1993. He is a member of the Worcester County and Massachusetts Bar Associations.
